According to legend, if you go wandering around West Wratting at night, you may be in for a fright! On the road to Balsham have been many reports of a ghastly creature called the Shug Monkey. Best described as a cross between a monkey and a dog, it would sometimes walk on all fours and sometimes bounder along on two legs. Everyone always said they were spooked by its huge shining eyes. Similar to the Shock recorded in Suffolk, and the Shuck recorded in East Anglia, it seems this name for a monstrous entity travelled further than one creature.
